Cornerstone Christian School FAQs

My family is struggling with the weak economy, how can I afford a Christian education?

Cornerstone understands these difficult economic times; therefore, we offer income based financial assistance on a first come, first serve basis. Additionally, we offer convenient monthly payment plans at no additional cost and incentives to earn discounts based on your volunteer hours at the school.

Does Cornerstone have a dress code?
Cornerstone requires uniform dress that is simple for both boys and girls; Khaki or Navy pants, shorts, or skirts and shirts in navy, sky blue, red, white, or pink. Uniforms are inexpensive and can be purchased at many locations such as Target, Land’s End, Old Navy, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. Our parents have found that the use of uniforms is much easier on the budget than traditional street clothes and simplifies the issue of “what to wear”. See our student handbook for additional dress code information.

Does Cornerstone offer extra-curricular activities?
At this time Cornerstone offers the following activities and plans to add additional activities throughout the coming years: Swim team, Golf team, Running Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Art Lessons. The school hosts an annual Art/History/Science Fair and individual classes also enjoy numerous educational field trips throughout the year.

Does Cornerstone’s curriculum teach specific doctrine?
Cornerstone’s curriculum is non-denominational based on the belief that Jesus Christ, the son of God, was sent to earth in human form to become a blood sacrifice to save us from our sin; Jesus is the only way to salvation. Specific doctrine remains the responsibility of the family and church.

Is Cornerstone a good place for students that have behavior issues and have difficulty functioning in public schools?
While we would love to provide our ministry to all students, we are physically and financially unable to support students that are unable to follow school rules or those that provide other behavioral challenges. Cornerstone attempts to educate all students; however, there is a probation period that allows us to determine if your student is a good fit for our school.

I have been told that students that transfer to public schools are behind in their classes, what can I expect from your curriculum?
Cornerstone prides itself on our advanced curriculum! Our students perform on average 1.5 grade levels above their peers in public schools across the country. Our class sizes are small so students get the attention they need. Our curriculum is based on the educational principle that students learn in succinct stages and need time for mastery before proceeding to the next stage; this process allows students to generalize their knowledge to all areas of education rather than teaching specific content for the sake of end of the year test content. Emphasis is placed on becoming fluent readers, writing based on correct grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, cursive writing, learning and mastering math facts without the use of a calculator, science, history, art, and music. We don’t rely on “trendy” educational programs to educate our students; we rely on solid teaching and a strong curriculum. Our students are assessed yearly using the Stanford Achievement Test which is national test of skills; therefore, we are able to compare our students’ performance to other students in the nation; unlike Kentucky public schools that compare their performance to other Kentucky students. The majority of Cornerstone students that have transferred to the public school system find themselves at the top of the class academically.

Are the teachers at Cornerstone certified; is Cornerstone accredited?
Absolutely!! Actually our teachers are certified not only in Kentucky, but also by the Association for Christian Schools International (ACSI). Our school is also accredited through ACSI which requires that we maintain high standards and an ongoing commitment to improve student performance in a committed Christian atmosphere.

Are parents and students required to participate in fundraising?
Unfortunately as a small Christian school, we do not receive any type of government funding; therefore, we rely on our tuition and fundraising to support our ministry. Parents are not required to participate in our fundraising efforts but a team effort approach is best when trying to ensure our continued presence in the community. Cornerstone is truly a “non-profit” organization as we use all our funds to pay for the cost of Christian education.

Does Cornerstone operate on the same calendar schedule as public schools?
For the convenience of our parents, we try to follow the public school calendar as much as possible for major holidays and breaks; however, we follow our own schedule regarding snow days and makeup days. Cornerstone has historically completed the school year before Memorial Day.

I understand that to participate fully in all educational opportunities, much can be done with the use of the Internet. How do I give my student permission to use this resource?

To sign the current Internet Agreement, you will need to read and sign for yourself and your student(s). To get full instructions, read the agreement here: Internet Agreement.
